Hibernian goalkeeper Graham Stack has been left 'devastated and crushed' after being ruled out of the first all-Edinburgh Scottish Cup final in more than 100 years.
Stack limped out of the 2-1 semi-final victory over Aberdeen, and scans revealed he has sustained a torn thigh muscle which will keep him sidelined for three months.
The Hampden showdown with capital rivals Hearts on May 19th is the biggest local derby since the clubs clashed in the final of 1896 and the news of his injury has left Stack reeling.
"I'm devastated, completely crushed. I knew at the time it felt bad but you've always got that feeling of hope it might be OK," he said.
Bad news
"I went for a scan in the morning and was given some hope. The doctor told me it didn't seem as bad as he thought, so I felt pretty positive. Then I got the call to tell me the bad news.
"It's the worst game I could have missed. It's a huge game and I won't be anywhere near it. It's the worst possible news I could have had.
"It was meant to be the biggest day in my career and it has been taken away from me," added Stack, who fears he may not be offered a new contract when his current deal expires this summer.
"Missing the final is bad enough but to be injured when I am out of contract as well couldn't be worse," he said. "My whole summer, my whole life is up in the air."
