Anthony Stokes came off the bench to grab the third and decisive goal in Hibernian's 3-1 home victory over St Mirren.

The win lifted Alan Stubbs' side to within two points of leaders Rangers, who travel to Cappielow to face Morton on Monday evening.

Stokes' Celtic team-mate Liam Henderson, like the Irishman on loan at Easter Road until the end of the season, fired the home side in front with a superb 25-yard free kick with just 10 minutes on the clock.

Saints' Lawrence Shankland shot narrowly wide in the 23rd minute as the visitors came more into the game but they were stunned a minute before the break when John McGinn slotted the ball beyond the reach of Jamie Langfield to make it 2-0.

However, Stephen Mallan gave Alex Rae's side hope when drilling home a 20-yard free kick two minutes into first-half stoppage time.

The second period began with Hibernian on top and Paul Hanlon and McGinn saw efforts cleared off the line before Stokes, a second-half substitute for Craig Dagnall, completed the scoring with a close-range finish in the final minute.

Falkirk slipped two points behind Hibs in the table after they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Livingston.

As the sides looked to go in goalless at the interval, Craig Sibbald (44) lost his marker on the right side of the box and fired Falkirk in front from a narrow angle after fine work from on-loan Norwich midfielder Conor McGrandles.

But Peter Houston's side were pegged back level six minutes after the break when Liam Buchanan found space in the box before dispatching a left-footed shot beyond the reach of visiting 'keeper Danny Rogers.

A 41st-minute goal from Iain Russell earned Queen of the South a narrow victory over Alloa while Raith Rovers and Dumbarton drew 0-0 in the only other game of the day.
