Brendan Rodgers says Rangers have out-spent Celtic this summer because they are determined to win the Scottish Premiership.
The Celtic manager says Pedro Caixinha's multi-million pound spree dwarfed Celtic's outlay, despite the Hoops' Champions League windfall from last season.
As a result, only top position in the Scottish Premiership come May will satisfy the Ibrox hierarchy, according to Rodgers, ahead of the first Glasgow derby of the season, live on Sky Sports, on Saturday, September 23.
The former Liverpool boss, unbeaten in six matches against Rangers since his arrival in Glasgow at the start of last season, said: "They have clearly spent money in the summer.
"They spent more than us - and we're a Champions League club.
"So that tells you that their idea is to win the league. It's not to finish third. Not to finish above Aberdeen. It's to win the league.
Rangers finished 39 points behind Celtic last season and currently sit five points off the top, but Rodgers believes Caixinha will not be too downcast having completed a serious squad overhaul.
He added: "Pedro obviously came in during the close season and was able to assess and look at different methods that Rangers can try to work and play.
"And I'm sure they will be reasonably happy with how they have started."
