McCoist - Lafferty must learn

Ally McCoist has branded Kyle Lafferty as 'foolish' but backed the striker to learn from the experience.

Assistant boss criticises 'foolish' striker

Ally McCoist has branded Kyle Lafferty as 'foolish' following his behaviour against Aberdeen but backed the striker to learn from the experience. Lafferty went to ground dramatically after going head-to-head with Charlie Mulgrew in Saturday's 2-1 victory for Rangers. Little or no contact was made but referee Stuart Dougal was convinced by Lafferty's reaction and showed a red card to Mulgrew. Rangers have fined the 21-year-old and the player himself has expressed 'deep regret' over the incident. Assistant boss McCoist has also made his feelings known to Lafferty but he is confident the mistake will not be repeated. "We spoke to Kyle at great length," McCoist told Rangers World. "It is obviously something that he deeply regrets - it was a foolish thing to do. "I think he has already apologised to Charlie Mulgrew, who was sent off unfairly, harshly. "It's hopefully something Kyle will learn from. He now knows he has made a mistake, it is not expected from a Rangers player. "The only thing he could have done was apologise and he did, so we can move on."
