Martyn Waghorn is still awaiting a diagnosis on his hamstring injury, but Rangers boss Mark Warburton has suggested an improvement in the striker's condition.

The 26-year-old left the pitch distraught on Saturday after pulling up with hamstring pain late in Rangers' 1-1 home draw against Hamilton in their Scottish Premiership clash.

Waghorn, who equalised for Rangers at Ibrox, missed a large chunk of his side's run-in last season after sustaining a knee injury in a Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock.

However, Warburton is hoping for better news when he goes for a scan.

"He's having a scan [on Tuesday]. He's recovering well, hopefully," Warburton said. "Whether it was nerve-related, we will have to wait and see.

"You can't tell but he certainly feels a lot more comfortable last couple of days than immediately after the incident, so hopefully it has calmed down. If it was spasm-related then we will find out."

Waghorn will miss Tuesday's Betfred Cup visit of Peterhead along with Josh Windass, who does have a nerve issue in his hamstring area which will keep him out of training for another few days.

Meanwhile, former Brentford boss Warburton is warning there is no end in sight to the big-spending by the top-flight clubs south of the border.

With more than three weeks until the end of the summer transfer window, the arrivals in Manchester of Paul Pogba and John Stones have taken the spending on new players to over £750m.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Peterhead tie, Warburton said: I keep being asked if the bubble is about to burst but I don't think it's even started yet.

"I think we are at the start of the cycle whereby prices are going to continue to ratchet higher in a really significant manner and I think we are nowhere near. We are in the mid-range of that cycle now.

"We have to find a way of countering it because there is money being spent down south that Scottish clubs can only dream of."
