Rangers' performance in their Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic was described as "embarrassing" and "shambolic" by the Sky Sports pundits.

Graeme Murty's side struggled to lay a glove on their Old Firm rivals in a one-sided clash at Hampden Park, which ended 4-0 to their Glasgow rivals.

Celtic scored twice in either half and Rangers' Ross McCrorie was sent off shortly after half-time for bringing down Moussa Dembele in the box.

"There was an enormous gulf in class even at 11 v 11," said former Celtic striker Andy Walker. "There is not one single Rangers player that would threaten to get in the Celtic team.

"The first half was a total embarrassment for Rangers, they were so far off the pace."

Rangers had pushed Celtic close in their last meeting as they were beaten 3-2 at Ibrox in March.

However, they could not repeat that performance at Hampden Park, and former Rangers striker Kris Boyd said: "There are too many shirking responsibilities. It was shambolic.

"Rangers caused their own problems. I don't get their formation at the start of the game. When you have the amount of bodies they do in the middle of the pitch you want to show them in the pitch. Rangers were showing them out. The wingers should have been outside and showing them inside into the congested area. I don't get what Rangers were doing today.

"Take nothing away from Celtic, they were outstanding from start to finish, but I think Rangers have got massive problems ahead…I don't quite see where Rangers are going."

Rangers now turn their attentions back to the Scottish Premiership, where they are in a battle to finish second.

There is also uncertainty over the future of Murty after chairman Dave King released a statement which gave little reassurance that he would still be in charge next season.

"Nobody is going to look back and say, 'Oh well done Graeme Murty finished second'. You want a trophy," said Boyd.

"Rangers have now got a challenge to finish second."

Former Celtic player Kris Commons added: "It was men against boys. This was a Celtic team in full flow, confident, arrogant, a joy to watch. There may have been a few questions beforehand but they found all the answers this afternoon."
