Rangers manager Ally McCoist feels the club's cup win over Motherwell proves they can still compete with clubs at the top of Scottish football.

Impressive

Kyle Hutton hopes an impressive outing against Motherwell will end his exile from the Rangers first team after he was pitched into the action early on when Francisco Sandaza was forced off with a head knock. It was Hutton's first appearance since the League Cup win over East Fife in early August and, in recent games, he has failed even to make the bench. The 21-year-old is now keen to establish himself in the top team after admitting he has no idea why he has not been able to hold down a place in McCoist's plans so far. He said: "I've not really got an answer to that question. I could have sat in the corner and sulked but I knew what I had to do. I just kept my head down and worked hard. "I got my reward and I took my chance so hopefully things can change. "Personally, it was great. I've been a bit frustrated over the past while with not getting a game. I've come in now and played well so hopefully I can kick on now."
