Colchester have announced that Pat Baldwin and Scott Vernon have joined Southend on loan.

Defender and striker move to Roots Hall

Colchester United have announced that defender Pat Baldwin and striker Scott Vernon have joined Southend United on loan until the end of the season. Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson wants his team to put distance between themselves and the League One relegation zone and has moved to strengthen his squad. The duo become the latest Colchester players to make the loan trip to Roots Hall following the switches of John White and Matt Heath at the start of the season. Colchester are sitting in the League One play-off positions and manager Aidy Boothroyd has decided that he has enough strength in depth to allow Baldwin and Vernon to leave without jeopardising a promotion push. Due to the terms of the loans, neither Baldwin nor Vernon will be allowed to face Colchester when they play Southend on 8th February.
