Sixteen-year-old debutant Anthony McDonald set up both goals as Hearts beat Dundee 2-0 at Tynecastle on Tuesday.
The midfielder set up Isma Goncalves to net on the half-hour mark, scooping a pass between two defenders for his team-mate, who slotted into the far corner.
Christophe Berra made sure of Hearts' second home victory in four days when he scored after McDonald's 77th-minute corner.
Dundee had enjoyed long spells of possession in between but John McLaughlin saved several free-kicks from Scott Allan, and Roarie Deacon missed two decent chances.
Hearts finished the match on top and moved above Motherwell into fifth place.
Elsewhere, Kilmarnock battled from two goals down to claim a precious Scottish Premiership point at Ross County.
Two goals inside 10 first-half minutes from Chris Routis and Jason Naismith appeared to have set the Staggies on course for a home win, especially with Killie having lost two players - Gordon Greer and Stuart Findlay to injury.
But the visitors produced a stirring display after the interval, and goals from Eamonn Brophy and Kris Boyd earned them a 2-2 draw.
