Scottish Championship leaders Hibernian have signed two defenders until the end of the season in a bid to aid the club's return to the Premiership.

Nigeria international Efe Ambrose has moved in a loan deal which will see out the remainder of his contract with Celtic after four-and-a-half years at the club.

The 28-year-old's last game for the Hoops came in the 1-1 draw against FC Astana in the Champions League qualifiers in July.

He had seemed certain to join Blackburn in the Sky Bet Championship on the last day of January, but the move broke down because of work permit issues.

Ambrose now links up again with Neil Lennon, who he played his best football under as the pair enjoyed much success together at Celtic Park.

Former Motherwell, Ross County and Dundee United defender Brian McLean also joins the Easter Road side until the end of the season following a year in Brunei.

Lennon is likely to include both players in his squad for Wednesday's trip to Paisley to play St Mirren.

"We were a little bit light on bodies in the central defensive position at the minute and bringing in Efe and Brian will fill that void," Lennon said.

"Both have fantastic experience in domestic football here in Scotland, as well as abroad. I know what qualities each of them possess and they will help to bolster the squad as we strive to achieve our goals this campaign."
