Bochum have confirmed striker Rafik Djebbour has been offered on loan by AEK Athens.
Djebbour has endured a controversial two seasons in the Greek capital after two fall-outs with team-mate Nacho Scocco and manager Dusan Bajevic.
The 24-year-old has already trained at Celtic and Blackburn in a bid to find a new team, but neither British side were willing to take a plunge on the former Auxerre front-man.
AEK have now looked to Bochum to take their unwanted Algerian international and the Bundesliga side's general manager Thomas Ernst has backed up claims that Djebbour has been presented to the Germans.
"This is true and we are actually looking into this," Ernst told
Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung.
But it remains to be seen whether Bochum, currently fifth in Germany's top tier, will be prepared to pay the reported £270,000 to take a gamble on the Algeria marksman, who is desperate to earn regular football to go to next year's World Cup.
"It is a fact we do not have much to spend this coming transfer period, but we are not going to rule out making transfers (during the window)," added Ernst.
"Every new player needs to give us an outright boost, accidentally I have been able to watch him play, so did one of our staff.
"The player had enjoyed a solid performance then, at the moment (Rafik) Djebbour does not top our shortlist."
