Bordeaux defender calls for concentration

Marc Planus believes Bordeaux could get dragged into trouble if they take their eye off the ball. The 2009 Ligue 1 champions are perched inside the top half at present, with a late European push on the cards. They are, however, still only eight points clear of the relegation zone with 11 games of the season remaining. A dramatic dip in form would see them tumble down the standings and place their top-flight status under threat. Planus is determined to ensure such a situation does not arise, with it important that the club focus on steering clear of danger before eyeing a top-five finish.

Objective

"I am not thinking about Europe," the France international, who missed several months of the season through injury, told France Football. "I am thinking more about survival. That is the main objective. "I heard Ulrich Rame talking recently about the same thing. Why? Because of the 2004/05 season [when Bordeaux stayed up on the last day]. "Staying up is possible providing we continue to pick up points. "There are 300 employees at the club who rely on us and we are not certain to remain in Ligue 1. We must not be scared to talk about this."
