Paris St Germain are set to beat Chelsea to the signature of the highly-rated Javier Pastore after the player announced a deal was close. The Argentina international posted on his website he would be undergoing a medical in what would be the final stages of a deal said to be worth £37million. Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas is likely to be disappointed after reportedly identifying Pastore as somebody who could give his side a creative influence from midfield.

"You can officially say that I will be a Paris St Germain player, although I still need to do the medical and review some details," Pastore wrote on his official website, www.pastorejavier.com, on Tuesday afternoon. "I want to be a part of Paris St Germain, which is a great club with a great history." The Ligue 1 club have been taken over by Qatari owners which have seen an injection of cash into the club, culminating in this latest signing. At 22, the skilful midfielder still has his best years ahead of him and he wants to play his part in this new era and win the club's first Ligue 1 title since 1994.
