Lyon blew away Monaco to secure automatic qualification for the Champions League next season.

The teams went into the match level on 62 points in the race for second place but Lyon were the side in form and they scored four times in the first half on the way to a crushing 6-1 victory.

With a far superior goal difference and only one match remaining, Lyon are now certain to finish ahead of their rivals.

They were two up after only nine minutes through Rachid Ghezzal and Alexandre Lacazette, and things got worse for Monaco when Lacina Traore was sent off for a second yellow card just 23 minutes in.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Lacazette then scored within a minute to make it four 10 minutes before half-time.

Monaco, who had a 10-point lead over Lyon two months ago, pulled one back through Ricardo Carvalho before the break but Yanga-Mbiwa scored again and Lacazette completed his hat-trick nine minutes from time.
