Raphael Varane has decided to remain at Real Madrid after considering his future with the European champions.
The France international defender has been at the Bernabeu since moving from French Ligue 1 club Lens in 2011 and admits he thought about moving on.
Varane held discussions with Real manager Zinedine Zidane but is now satisfied he can fulfil his ambitions in the Spanish capital.
The 23-year-old, who missed Real's Champions League final win over city neighbours Atletico and the Euro 2016 finals with a thigh injury, said: "I trust the club and I trust the coach.
"I talked with him a lot and he trusts me so it's one of the reasons I stayed. I made the decision to stay, the right decision.
"I'll continue to improve and I want this to be a good season for me and to be at my best."
News that Varane was unsettled in Madrid drew inevitable speculation he could link up with former Real coach Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
However, the Portuguese gave his new employers a summer shopping list of four players and duly recruited Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba.
