La Liga newcomers Girona stunned Real Madrid by coming from behind to defeat the European champions 2-1 at the Estadio Montilivi on Sunday afternoon.
Cristhian Stuani and Portu struck quickfire goals in the second half to wipe out Real's first-half lead given to them by Isco, as Girona wrote themselves into history in their first-ever league meeting against the champions.
Meanwhile on Saturday, Barcelona reclaimed their four-point lead over Valencia at the top of La Liga after beating Athletic Bilbao 2-0 at the San Mames Stadium.
Lionel Messi (36) opened the scoring by starting and finishing a sweeping move, but Bilbao were the better side in the second period before Paulinho wrapped up the victory in the second minute of stoppage time.
The results mean Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid are now eight points behind Barcelona.
