Argentine defender heading to Germany

Boca Juniors have agreed to sell Luciano Fabian Monzon to Bundesliga outfit Hamburg. The Argentine full-back is currently on international duty at the Beijing Olympics, helping his country reach the gold medal contest against Nigeria. Negotiations concerning his transfer were held in Madrid this week, with Hamburg prepared to pay 5.2million euros (£4.1million) for a 70 per cent stake in the defender's contract. The German club accepted the deal with Boca president Pedro Pompilio moments before Primera Liga side Real Betis expressed their interest in the 21-year-old.

Personal terms

"We have reached a total understanding and agreement with Hamburg regarding the transfer of Monzon," Pompilio told Radio La Red. "We are happy because we think that what we have agreed is the best for Hamburg, Boca and the player. "The negotiations were very long but have finally arranged everything. "Monzon will be travelling directly from China to Europe with his agent to discuss personal terms. "If that goes okay then the transfer will be completed."
