Real Madrid have confirmed they will no longer pursue David Villa after signing Karim Benzema.

Valdano satisfied following Benzema arrival

Real Madrid have confirmed they will no longer pursue David Villa after clinching a deal for Karim Benzema. Benzema has followed Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo in making the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Valencia striker Villa was expected to likewise last month but it now appears Real are happy with their attacking options. Director general Jorge Valdano said: "Benzema fulfils the goal of having a striker, a goalscorer who brings a lot of presence and aggression to the forward line. Asked whether Benzema's arrival meant Real would abandon their quest to bring in Villa, Valdano added: "Benzema and Villa both have these characteristics so the answer to your question is yes." Raul Albiol, meanwhile, has become the latest player to be presented to the fans following his move from Valencia. "I don't have to say that I'm very happy to be here. It comes with great pride to be welcomed like that," said the Spain international.
