Real Madrid have agreed to loan left-back Fabio Coentrao to Monaco for the remainder of the 2015/16 season, the two clubs announced on Wednesday.

Portugal international Coentrao, 27, joined Real from Benfica in 2011 for 30m euros (£22m).

He helped Los Blancos to their last league title in his first season at the club and was also a part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2013-14, playing an hour of the 4-1 final win over arch-rivals Atletico Madrid.

However, he is now behind fellow left-back Marcelo in the La Liga club's pecking order and has also been hampered by a series of injuries, making only 17 appearances in all competitions last season.
