The lack of goal-line technology in La Liga cost Lionel Messi as he scored a 'goal' for Barcelona that clearly crossed the line against Valencia - but it did not stand.
Messi's shot on the half-hour mark was spilled by Neto and rolled back over the line before the goalkeeper could claw it away.
However, there is no goal-line technology in La Liga and neither the linesman nor the referee awarded the goal.
Barcelona players protested the decision but to no avail, and their frustration was almost compounded as Valencia countered and Simone Zaza fired just wide.
Valencia did score early in the second half, but Barcelona fought back to claim a 1-1 draw at Mestalla.
Unlike in Europe's other major leagues such as the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A, La Liga president Javier Tebas has refused to introduce goal-line technology due to concerns over cost.
It is not the first time Barca have paid the price for Tebas' reluctance as they were also denied a clear goal in a 1-1 draw at Real Betis last season.
