Villarreal goalkeeper attracting interest

Manchester City scouts are understood to have travelled to Spain over the weekend to watch Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez. Lopez has established himself as one of the finest keepers in the Primera Liga since he joined Villarreal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2007. He is contracted to Villarreal until 2014 and is valued in the region of 30million euros (£28.4million) but speculation suggests a number of clubs are interested in securing his services. City are thought to be one of the clubs in the race and scouts looked on as Lopez conceded twice in Villarreal's 2-1 defeat by Barcelona on Sunday. City are expected to strengthen their squad when the transfer window reopens and have previously been linked with a mega-money move for Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus. It now seems they have turned their attention to Lopez, although Villarreal have insisted they have yet to receive an offer for the 27-year-old.
