Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone would not be a good fit for Manchester United despite the success he has had with the Spanish club, insists Terry Gibson.

Simeone's side, who have been on an eight-game winning streak spanning back to early November, sit second in La Liga, level on points with Barcelona and five points clear of rivals Real Madrid.

United manager Louis van Gaal has come under scrutiny for the style of play at Old Trafford, while the club were also eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage last week.

Speaking on the La Liga Weekly Podcast, Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Gibson says Simeone is in the perfect position at the Vicente Calderon and believes that while United fans may be unhappy with Van Gaal at present, Simeone is not the man to take them forward.

"I can't see him anywhere else," Gibson said. "It's such a good fit [at Atletico]. He seems to have the power to run everything, to determine which players are brought in and which players are sold.

"He has the power to determine players that he's bought that he doesn't deem to be good enough with quite a quick decision to loan them out and the club take a small hit or a big hit on the players they've loaned out."

Alessio Cerci, a €20m signing from Torino in the summer of 2014, failed to impress under Simeone and was quickly shipped out to AC Milan midway through last season.

Similarly, Raul Jimenez, also a summer signing in 2014, was only given less than a year to influence Simeone's side and was quickly moved on to Benfica, where he has enjoyed mixed success.

Gibson added: "I mean Cerci is an example, Josuha Guilavogui an example and Raul Jimenez too, he's gone off.

"Simeone gets the power and the authority to make those decisions, to play a certain style of football that out of the top three they are still recognised as an underdog and you can play the type of football that the Atletico fans are happy with.

"To go to Manchester United where they've got the oomph with the style of football, I'm not so sure it would be such a good fit."
