Roma captain Francesco Totti is expected to extend his contract at the club until 2012.
The 31-year-old, who has played for Roma since 1993, has a current deal which is due to expire in 2010.
But the club wants to extend this for a further two years - which would see Totti play until he is 35 - although it is believed his current wage of about 6million euros would be cut a little with the renewal.
The contract offer comes as Totti remains an influential component of the Roma side, with team-mate Simone Perrotta believing 2008 will be his captain's season.
"I find it a scandal that he has never been considered for the Golden Ball," Perrotta told Gazzetta dello Sport.
Retired
While Totti continues to thrive in Serie A, the Roma forward has retired from the international scene.
He took a break from international football after helping Italy win the World Cup in 2006 and then announced in July last year that he would be quitting the national team completely.
But, ever the team player, he is still willing to play for Italy in the up-coming Euro 2008 in exceptional circumstances.
He recently said he would help out if there are injuries or it is an emergency, although he would not want to be selected ahead of any of the players who featured in Italy's qualification campaign.
