Catania reveal verbal agreement for striker

Catania have confirmed that a 'verbal agreement' has been reached for the sale of Jorge Martinez to Juventus. The Uruguayan striker, surprisingly left out of Oscar Tabarez's 23-man squad for the World Cup, has been linked with several clubs. Lazio were thought to be leading the chase earlier this month but Juventus have now stolen a march on their rivals and are on the brink of securing Martinez's signature. Catania sporting director Pietro Lo Monaco believes a deal could be finalised within 48 hours, although he accepts that nothing is yet certain. "We have got a verbal agreement with Juventus," Lo Monaco said on lalaziosiamonoi.it. "But there is nothing definitive. There is the agreement, but until you put pen on paper, anything can happen in the market. "We have arranged another meeting within a couple of days, and the situation could be closed then."
