Garrone plans to keep hold of Swiss left-back

Riccardo Garrone has declared Sampdoria's intention to keep hold of full-back Reto Ziegler. The Switzerland international has been heavily linked with a move away from the club and AC Milan, Lazio and Malaga have all expressed an interest. Sampdoria president Garrone is aware of the speculation but maintains that Ziegler will not be going anywhere. "I note there is a lot of media coverage about Ziegler, but for us this player is too important and we have decided not to lose him," Garrone told lalaziosiamonoi.it. "At this moment the priority is to keep a competitive squad and therefore we cannot do without him. "The decision has been made. Ziegler is staying at Sampdoria."

Adequate

Garrone has nevertheless left the door open for a possible exit, but only if a suitable bid is lodged. "We will only take an offer for Ziegler into consideration if it is financially favourable to us. For the moment adequate bids have not been received," he said, before commenting on Lazio's pursuit of the player. "We haven't spoken to Lazio for a few days. This is an important player and we will not accept others being introduced as part of an exchange." The Biancocelesti had reportedly offered Pasquale Foggia as part of the deal.
