Midfielder says future does not depend on Champions League

Lazio midfielder Hernanes has stressed that he plans to stay at the club even if UEFA Champions League qualification is not secured. The race for fourth place in Serie A will go down to the final day of the season, with Lazio currently two points adrift of Udinese. Reports have suggested that Hernanes could be tempted to leave for a club that will be playing in Europe's premier competition, and his sparkling performances this season would ensure plenty of interested suitors. However, the Brazilian maintains that he is enjoying life at Lazio, having joined the club last summer, and fully intends to see out his long-term deal. "My future does not depend on the Champions League or Europa League. I have a five-year contract and I am happy in this city," he said. "I am very happy to be part of this club and I want to give more. I have to grow plenty as a player." Hernanes was delighted to end a run of three straight defeats on Saturday as Lazio beat Genoa 4-2 to stay in contention for fourth place. "There was some bitterness for the losses, and we even started with the handbrake still engaged against Genoa," he said. "But we changed mentality and we were able to win."
