Italian set for German switch

Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg are set to sign Italy international defender Cristian Zaccardo. According to a report in Kicker, Wolfsburg have agreed terms on a 7 million euros fee with Palermo for the 26-year-old right back who will be handed a three-year deal at the VW Arena. Wolves coach Felix Magath had been known to be looking to strengthen his defensive line for some time and had previously been linked with a move for FC Valenciennes player Rudy Mater. The signing of Zaccardo, who played three times for his country in the 2006 World Cup, is a major coup for Magath as he attempts to build on a solid first season in charge at Wolfsburg by challenging for Europe in the Bundesliga next season.
