Striker rediscovers form after unhappy spell in Spain

Antonio Cassano hopes that his recent fine performances will persuade Italian coach Roberto Donadoni to hand him an international recall. The striker has been rejuvenated since securing a loan move to Sampdoria from Real Madrid, scoring five goals in 13 Serie A appearances. Having missed out on a place in the triumphant 2006 World Cup squad, Cassano is now making a strong case to be included in Donadoni's squad for Euro 2008. He is, however, refusing to get too carried away by the hype currently surrounding him and realises that a place in the national squad is far from guaranteed.

Positive

"I don't know what will happen, but I hope that the Italy squad will not continue without me," he said. "It's a situation that only Donadoni can solve. "I am feeling good at the moment, and when I feel good positive things happen. "The problem now is solely in the hands of the national coach."
