Serie A round-up: Napoli beat Fiorentina; Lazio lose to Sassuolo

Gonzalo Higuain struck the winner 15 minutes from time as Napoli beat Serie A leaders Fiorentina 2-1 at the San Paolo stadium to clinch their third straight league win.

Lorenzo Insigne put Napoli ahead one minute after the re-start before Nikola Kalinic pulled the Viola level in the 73rd minute.

Napoli hit straight back two minutes later when Higuain stole the ball and played a one-two with Dries Mertens before hitting a left-footed shot past Fiorentina goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu.

The defeat in Naples, only Fiorentina's second of the campaign, ended their five-match winning run in Italy's top flight.

Lazio's winning run of three matches also ended on Sunday as they were beaten 2-1 by Sassuolo.

Domenico Berardi's seventh-minute penalty, awarded after Lazio's Senad Lulic fouled Paolo Cannavaro, put the hosts ahead.

Sassuolo doubled their lead on the hour when Simone Missiroli pounced on a loose ball and drilled a 15-yard strike past visiting goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

Lazio reduced the arrears seven minutes later when Keita set up Felipe Anderson in the area and his diagonal shot found the back of the net.

Substitute Panagiotis Tachtsidis struck a winner at the death as 10-man Genoa clinched a thrilling 3-2 victory over Chievo.

Alberto Paloschi silenced the crowd in Genoa when he put Chievo ahead in the opening minute, but Leonardo Pavoletti equalised 12 minutes later with a six-yard shot before team-mate Serge Gakpe put the hosts ahead for the first time in the 17th minute.

Genoa suffered a blow when Blerim Dzemaili was shown his second yellow card nine minutes after the re-start following a late challenge on Perparim Hetemaj and Chievo took advantage - pulling level in the 77th minute with substitute Sergio Pellisier's tap-in.

However, Tachtsidis earned Genoa their third victory with a 25-yard strike with seconds remaining.

Inter Milan missed a chance to reclaim top spot in Serie A after a goalless draw with Juventus in Sunday's derby d'Italia.

In a hard-fought encounter at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, the Nerazzurri almost broke the deadlock in the 27th minute but Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon tipped Marcelo Brozovic's curled effort onto the crossbar.

Juve also were denied by the woodwork in the 69th minute when Sami Khedira's right-footed shot beat Inter Milan keeper Samir Handanovic but rattled the left post.

The outcome in Milan has left Inter in third place, level on 17 points with second-place Roma. 

Juve, meanwhile, have dropped to 14th in the standings with nine points from eight games.

Atalanta brushed aside Carpi 3-0 to maintain their unbeaten run at home.

Mauricio Pinilla's close-range header put the Bergamaschi on their way in the seventh minute and they doubled their lead two minutes before the break when Alejandro Gomez's hard drive from outside the area beat goalkeeper Vid Belec.

Luca Cigarini all but sealed victory in the 63rd minute when he converted a penalty after Pinilla was brought down in the area by Carpi defender Igor Bubnjic.

Frosinone scored twice in the second half to down Sampdoria 2-0.

The hosts took a 53rd-minute lead thanks to Luca Paganini's header from Danilo Soddimo's cross and they doubled their advantage two minutes later when Federico Dionisi struck a right-footed shot from 20 yards.

Udinese substitute Cyril Thereau scored an equaliser six minutes from time to deny hosts Verona their first Serie A win of the campaign.

Verona, after Udinese's Molla Wague brought down Luca Siligardi in the area, took a 41st minute lead when Giampaolo Pazzini converted the penalty, but Thereau headed home late on to cancel it out.

Basement boys Bologna slumped to their seventh defeat in eight Serie A games this season as they lost 1- 0 at home to Palermo.

Franco Vazquez scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute, taking a touch to control Oscar Hiljemark's pass inside from the left of the area before poking his finish beyond goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.
