Liverpool have ended their pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, according to Sky sources.

Sky Sports News understands the Reds decided to end their interest when their second, and final, bid was rejected by the Bundesliga club two weeks ago.

It is also understood Liverpool would renew their interest should Leipzig change their stance, but so far there has been no indication that will be the case.

Three years ago he was an unknown teenager being relegated from France's second tier.

A senior official at Leipzig told Sky Sports News last week that Keita will "100 per cent not be sold in this window" having revealed the club had already rejected a £67m offer from an unnamed side.

The 22-year-old caused a Leipzig training session to be abandoned earlier this week after his "brutal foul" left team-mate Diego Demme needing to go to hospital for treatment.

Keita, who scored eight goals in 31 appearances last season, was later pictured making amends with Demme.
