Uli Hoeness has declared Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer wanted to join Bayern Munich this summer.

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has revealed that Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer wanted to join them this summer.
The 23-year-old is highly rated in Germany and had been tipped as a possible candidate to succeed Oliver Kahn at Bayern when the shot-stopper retired in summer 2008.
Bayern are yet to fill the void left by the temperamental Kahn one year on and tabled an offer for Neuer last month, but were knocked back by Royal Blues boss Felix Magath.
The Germany international stated all along that he was happy at the club but Hoeness has revealed that the keeper would be a Bayern player if it wasn't for Schalke.
"Neuer told us quite clearly that he wanted to come to us," he told
Bild.
Committed to the cause
However Neuer claims that no one from Bayern ever contacted him about a move and now considers the case closed.
"I have never spoken in person to anybody of Bayern Munich concerning a potential transfer," he told
Kicker.
"This would be quite useless, in fact. I am a Schalke player and I am fully committed to my club. I am going to be in between the Schalke posts and my contract is long-term.
"I have been praised by Felix Magath and I am really glad to hear such praise.
"I am delighted and I share his ambition to win the Bundesliga with this club. The people of Schalke are waiting to win the trophy for a really long time now and I can also not wait to see it claimed.
"It's great to add something to it with performances and I am fully out to help the club to achieve it."
