Goalkeeper signs new long-term contract

Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio has signed a new deal to keep him at the club until 2013. The Switzerland international turned in a series of accomplished performances to help Wolfsburg win the Bundesliga title last season. He only joined in January but has already become such a key player that club bosses have moved to secure his services on a long-term basis. Benaglio is delighted to be staying with Wolfsburg and hopes to achieve more success over the next four years. "I feel very happy with Wolfsburg and am looking forward to continuing my work here," he said. "We have an ambitious team and I would like to play my part in establishing Wolfsburg at the top of the Bundesliga and developing internationally." The likes of Edin Dzeko, Grafite and captain Josue have all committed their futures to Wolfsburg in recent times and manager Armin Veh is pleased to add Benaglio's name to the list. "Diego Benaglio is an important foundation of our team," said Veh. "We are delighted to have been able to secure the long-term services of another important team member."
