Werder Bremen keeper to compete for starting place

Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese has replaced Bayer Leverkusen's Rene Adler in the Germany squad to face Belgium on Wednesday. Adler was forced to withdraw from the squad after picking up a shoulder injury in training and Joachim Low has now decided to give Wiese a chance to prove himself at international level. The 26-year-old will join Bremen team-mates Torsten Frings and Clemens Fritz in the squad after impressing for his club in both the league and UEFA Champions League. Wiese will now compete with Hannover custodian Robert Enke to stand between the posts in Germany's first game following the retirement of Jens Lehmann. "He has shown good form in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League over the past few years and fully earned this call-up," said DFB goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke.
