Italian striker desperate to end nightmare spell in Germany

Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni is "absolutely convinced" he will be a Roma player in the New Year. The Italian marksman has spent two unsuccessful seasons in the Bundesliga and has seen his reputation as one of Europe's top forwards diminish while also falling down the pecking order for the national side. Toni has fallen out with Bayern manager Louis van Gaal and has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Dutchman in the January transfer window. Premier League strugglers West Ham were linked with a move for the 32-year-old but the former Fiorentina man has opted for a return to Italy to boost his chances of forcing his way back into Marcello Lippi's plans for next summer's World Cup. "We hope that things will go as well as they should do and to all take satisfaction from this," the striker, who expects to seal a move to the Giallorossi on Saturday, told Radio Centro Suono Sport. "I'm very up for this, I want this situation and at the end this situation has to happen. "I am absolutely convinced that on the second I'll be at Roma. "We hope to find ourselves there on January 2 and have six great months." Should Toni's switch to Roma hit no stumbling blocks, the striker could be in line to make his debut for the Serie A giants in their first friendly of the new year against former club Cisco Lodigiani.
