PSV Eindhoven and Heracles maintained their pressure on the Eredivisie's top two with late away wins on Saturday.
With Ajax and Feyenoord playing on Sunday, the chasing pair moved within a point of the joint leaders.
PSV were tied with hosts FC Twente after goals from Luuk de Jong and Hakin Ziyech, but took all the points when Jurgen Locadia and Gaston Pereiro netted in the last six minutes.
Heracles were 1-0 winners at De Graafschap, Iiass Bel Hassani netting in the 83rd minute.
Willem II wasted a golden chance for victory when Stijn Wuytens missed a penalty two minutes from time against Heerenveen.
The game finished 2-2, Willem II twice going ahead through Richairo Zivkovic and Lucas Andersen with equalisers from Henk Veerman and Luciano Slagveer.
Excelsior also missed a spot-kick against Roda JC but still managed a 2-1 win.
Tomi Juric gave Roda the lead in the 14th minute but Sander Fischer and Jeff Stans turned the result on its head.
