Away wins for Twente, NEC and Feyenoord while Ajax win at home

FC Twente remain in second place after they defeated Sparta Rotterdam 2-1 away leaving them nine points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar. Steve McClaren's men took the lead after only four minutes when opposing defender Sander Van Gessel put through his own net. Sparta defender Ruud Knol equalised from the spot after 31 minutes but the Eredivisie strugglers were left empty-handed when Twente midfielder Theo Janssen stole all three points in the last minute. Ajax came from behind to win at home to bottom of the table Volendam to stay third, three points behind Twente. The visitors looked as if they could pull off one of the biggest shocks of the season when they took the lead through midfielder Gerson Sheotahul on 15 minutes. Marco Van Basten's side were level 14 minutes later when Luis Suarez fired home his 16th goal of the season. But any hopes that the home fans had of Volendam just rolling over were dashed and it wasn't until the 75th minute that Ajax sealed the win through defender Thomas Vermaelen. NEC Nijmegen moved to within two points of FC Utrecht after a 2-0 away win at the Nieuwe Galgenwaard. The visitors did not break the deadlock until the 78th minute when Youssef El Akchaoui fired home. Two minutes later the game was won when substitute Joel Tshibamba made sure of the three points. Feyenoord eased their relegation fears as they moved four points clear of the drop zone with a 2-0 away win over second bottom De Graafschap. After a goalless first half midfielder Karim El Ahmadi opened the scoring in the 54th minute but Feyenoord were made to wait for their second. The game was finally sealed in the last minute when former Newcastle and Milan striker Jon Dahl Tomasson scored his fifth of the season.
