Youngster sad to lose out on Ajax switch

Heerenveen striker Bas Dost admits he was disappointed to miss out on a move to Ajax last month. The young striker has cut a frustrated figure at the Abe Lenstra Stadion this season, making just 12 Eredivisie starts. Dost, 21, appeared to be on his way to the Amsterdam Arena on transfer deadline day, but the proposed deal fell through as the two clubs reportedly failed to agree on a fee, despite the involvement of football association arbitrators. The Holland Under-21 star admits his heart was set on leaving Heerenveen, insisting he has done everything he can to break into the club's first-team, to no avail. "I really didn't enjoy going to the club to play football for several months," Dost told De Telegraaf. "After the winter break, I was raring to go again after a good conversation with the coach. However, he then benched me again, which was a huge blow for me. "I've really done my utmost and I want to have fun here and play for Heerenveen. That's impossible though and that's why I wanted to leave."

Hurt

Dost says he was hurt to hear suggestions that a bigger salary was the deciding factor in him targeting a move to Ajax. He added: "I was really disappointed when I heard people say that I only wanted to leave for the money. "It hurts to hear this kind of thing. I already make enough money. I just want to play football and that's why I wanted to join Ajax." Dost, who arrived at Heerenveen from Heracles Almelo last year, has scored eight goals in 19 league appearances for the club this season, helping them to ninth in the standings.
