Dutch shot-stopper in no rush over future

Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg will make no hasty decisions over his future, according to his agent. The Dutchman's future is uncertain after being heavily linked with a move away from the Amsterdam Arena this summer. Stekelenburg has one year remaining on his Ajax deal but has been offered an improved contract with the Eredivisie champions, which he is considering. A host of top European clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, are thought to be targeting the Netherlands No.1, while Roma are believed to be leading the race for his signature.

Decision

The 28-year-old's representative, Rob Jansen, insists the keeper will think long and hard before making a decision over where to ply his trade next season. "There is enough interest, that's right," Jansen told De Telegraaf. "But he has to make a conscious choice." Stekelenburg, who missed the end of last season due to injury, is expected to start pre-season training in Amsterdam as he considers his future. The keeper has spent his entire career with Ajax since graduating from the youth academy in 2002, notching up almost 200 appearances for the Godenzonen.
