Eredivisie side swoop for Swedish youngster

FC Utrecht have agreed a deal to bring Swedish defender Marcus Nilsson to the club from Helsingborg. The 23-year-old will fly to Holland on Tuesday to undergo a medical at the Eredivisie club before putting pen to paper on a contract. Helsingborg sporting director Jesper Jansson, who has refused to disclose the transfer fee, feels it is the right time for Nilsson to move on. "We have been very open the whole time that our players should be given the chance when the right moment occurs," he told Hesingborgs Dagblad. "Now that moment has come and Marcus is ready for his next step. "I can only say that Utrecht have been very professional during this entire deal and therefore things have been arranged quickly."

Risk

Nilsson, a youth product at Helsingborg, was due to be out of contract at the Swedish club next summer While Jansson admits it would have been preferable to sell in the January transfer window, he did not want to risk losing the player on a free transfer. "Of course that would have been best but considering how little of his contract there would have been left it was best to sell now," he said. "We get paid and we know our position in the football world. This is the major transfer window and we must adjust to that."
