Free agent hopeful over new contract in Eindhoven

Brazilian striker Jonathan Reis is hopeful of returning to PSV Eindhoven on a new deal after making strides in his recovery from a serious knee injury. The young frontman has been sidelined since last December after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament and medial ligament in his knee. He has undergone two bouts of complicated surgery on the problem this year and has been recovering since. Reis' old contract at PSV expired during his rehabilitation and he is currently a free agent.

Reports in the Dutch media suggest the Eredivisie giants have offered him an initial six-month deal which would begin in January, with the option to extend at the end of the season. However, Reis is thought to be locked in talks with the club over the possibility of a longer contract. The 22-year-old told AD: "I hope it ends well and I can stay at PSV. I love this club very much." Before his injury Reis had been at PSV since 2007, having come through the youth ranks at the Dutch club.
