Swiss boss adamant skipper will play in South Africa

Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld is confident captain Alexander Frei will get to play at the World Cup. Basel striker Frei is racing to recover from a sprained ankle he suffered in training before the Swiss side flew out to South Africa. The 30-year-old skipper, who has scored 40 goals for his country, went out on a bike on Friday and is scheduled to do some running and ball work this weekend. And Hitzfeld is determined to see Frei play in the tournament, even if it is not against Spain in Wednesday's opener.

Confident

"I am sure that Alex will make his games in South Africa. If I was not confident, Alex would not be with us now," said Hitzfeld. "We are in a battle against time, but all of us will do our very best to get Alex ready as soon as possible. If he is to miss the game against Spain, there are some more games to come for him. "He is very important for the team, his record of 40 goals scored in his career says much more than my words." Following their Spain clash, Switzerland will take on Honduras and Chile in Group H of the tournament.
