Rangers drawn to face Progres Niederkorn in Europa League first qualifying round

Rangers have been drawn to face Progres Niederkorn in the first qualifying round of the Europa League.

Pedro Caixinha's side, who were seeded for the draw, will meet the team who finished fourth in Luxembourg's top flight last season and have been drawn to play at Ibrox in the first leg.

The game will mark Rangers' return to European football after a six-year absence.

Should the Gers negotiate that two-legged tie, they will play either AEL Limassol from Cyprus or St Joseph's of Gibraltar in the second qualifying round.

Limassol finished fourth in the Cypriot top flight last season, while St Joseph's finished third in the Gibraltar Premier Division and will play in Europe for the first time this term.

St Johnstone, who were also seeded for the first-round draw, were drawn to play Lithuanian side Trakai and will also start their Europa League campaign at home at McDiarmid Park.

Should Tommy Wright's side make it past the first round of qualifying, they will meet IFK Norrköping from Sweden or FC Prishtina, who finished second in the Kosovan league last season.

Aberdeen joined the draw in the second round of qualifying and will face either Ordabasy Shymkent from Kazakhstan or NK Siroki Brijeg from Bosnia. The Dons will kick off their Europa League campaign at Pittodrie after being handed a first-leg tie at home.

The first leg of the first qualifying round will take place on June 29, with the return leg the following week. The first leg of the second qualifying round will be on July 13, with the second leg the following week on July 20.
