Scotland manager Alex McLeish says the additions to his squad must "prove they can raise the bar" for the national team.
Scotland U21 players Oli McBurnie - currently on loan at Barnsley from Swansea - and Aberdeen's Scott McKenna have been named in the senior squad for the first time, alongside Manchester United's Scott McTominay.
"The players are in the squad because of their club form playing at a good level. The Scottish League has been much maligned. We have to show now that these crops of kids can prove they can actually raise the bar," McLeish said, ahead of his side's friendlies against Costa Rica and Hungary.
McLeish says losing left-back Kieran Tierney due to a calf problem has altered his ideas for his line-up: "It has changed my thoughts but it's not up in the air. We have different qualities in the team."
He also added how vital is it for the team maintain their Scottish style of football: "We want to play a certain brand of football but don't want to forget the Scottish roots. We have to keep the ball out of the Scottish net.
"We have young players who when they start their careers they really show themselves in a confident manner. I'm excited about seeing what the young players can bring in the first game.
"I really believe that they can make an impression. I was very pleased with the players and the attitude of those who took part in our very first training session. We have to go that extra yard to get over the final hurdle."
