Barca star relishing Seville test

Spanish star Xavi has told skysports.com that he is relishing the prospect of facing England. The Barcelona midfielder was a pivotal figure as the Spanish claimed their first major trophy since 1964 as they won Euro 2008. The European champions are now well on their way to qualification for the World Cup finals, with Xavi looking forward to clashing with England in the friendly in Seville. "The match against England does not have any points on it, but it has much prestige," he told skysports.com. "It is necessary to play at a good level and to win, and demonstrate Spain are European champions. "These are the sort of matches that any footballer desires to play in. "From our victory last summer in the Euros, each match has been a difficult test for us but I prefer to play against squads like the English. "England will have some absences through injury but they have great quality in their squad."

English admiration

Xavi, who himself was at one time linked with a move to England, admits he has huge admiration for the Premier League. "I have always had an interest in the Premier League, and now more so as it has so many Spanish players," he said. "It is an attractive competition and for me is the best in the world next to La Liga. "It is positive to have Spanish players in the Premier League and just shows that our players are capable of winning in any country." Xavi thinks that Fabio Capello is starting to impose himself on the England squad. "I have seen the last few England matches and the team has changed much in Capello's time," he continued. "Now not only do they use the aerial game, they control the ball and have a tight defence - but this is normal for an Italian coach." The Barca star is also hoping he will come up against David Beckham - who could make history on Wednesday by equalling the record amount of caps for an outfield player. "Beckham has always given big performances for England," he said. "He has a great touch and can always create trouble for his rivals."
