Wayne Rooney insists there is still plenty of areas England need to work on as they prepare for friendlies with Spain and France.
Rooney will not start in Friday's clash with Spain at the Jose Rico Perez Stadium in Alicante, while manager Roy Hodgson says his usual captain is "pencilled in" for Tuesday's match against the French.
Despite the friendly nature of the next two fixtures, it is a chance for Hodgson's youthful squad to exhibit their skills against two of the world's most respected sides.
Having eased through qualification with a 100 per cent record from their 10 games, Rooney said: "Our objective after the World Cup was to qualify but we now have to move on.
"It will be a tough night against Spain who have lots of very good players so we will have to work hard and then we've got another tough game against France.
"We have to perform and learn the way we want to play much better because these games will be a much bigger test than the qualifiers."
With seven months until the European Championships in France, Rooney added: "We know we've got a good squad and an exciting squad of players. It's a young squad though and we still need to improve.
"The manager can see that if we want to compete for the tournament. That's what we are trying to do in the training sessions.
"But it's a big test against Spain and we are really looking forward to it. We know we've got the quality in the squad to give Spain a good game. It's important for our preparation and hopefully we'll get a good result out of it."
