Thierry Henry says "the whole world will be French" when England play France at Wembley on Tuesday night.

Henry grew up in Paris, where terrorists killed 129 people in a series of co-ordinated attacks on Friday night.

England fans are expected to join their French counterparts in singing La Marseillaise at Wembley and the stadium's famous arch is lit up with the tricolore.

Henry wrote in his column for The Sun: "I was in Dubai on Friday night when the attacks on my home city were taking place and I can tell you that I have never felt so helpless.

Like all Parisians, I know the area where the attacks took place very well.

"I was watching the France versus Germany match at my hotel at two o'clock in the morning and even when I heard the two explosions, I didn't immediately realise what was going on.

"Then the commentators were saying that stuff was going on in Paris around the Stade de France and that's when everything started to become really confused. My immediate thoughts were to get in contact with my family and friends to make sure they were all ok…

"My parents live in a suburb of Paris, my brother works at a train station in the city an one of my friends works in a restaurant close to the scene of the shootings.

France captain Hugo Lloris says Tuesday's match with England will be an opportunity to show character after the events in Paris

"I have been to the Bataclan venue many times and, like all Parisians, I know the area where the attacks took place very well."

And Henry says that when England and France play at Wembley on what is set to be an emotional night in London, the world of sport will show its solidarity with Paris.

"When the Twin Towers were attacked on 9/11, everyone felt American," he wrote. "When London was devastated by the Tube attacks in 2005, we all became British. Tonight at Wembley, the whole world will be French."
