Nathaniel Clyne insists he is relishing competing with Kyle Walker for an England starting berth at Euro 2016.

The Liverpool defender was seemingly Roy Hodgson's first choice right-back heading into the tournament, only to be displaced by Walker, who performed impressively in England's opening two matches.

Clyne was one of six players drafted into Hodgson's starting line-up for the 0-0 draw against Slovakia on Monday.

And, although the Three Lions failed to secure a much-needed victory in Saint-Etienne, Clyne impressed in what was his first taste of European Championship action.

"I was pleased with my performance," said Clyne. "The manager made changes and we all came in and done well.

"We dominated the game from start to finish. It was a bit frustrating that we didn't get the goal which would have won us the game.

"He's done really well, all of the starting line-up that's been playing have done well and this was a chance for those coming in to show the manager that they should be in the team.

"It's good that everyone is fighting for positions, it makes the team healthy and makes everyone push harder."

After being held by Slovakia, England finished second in Group B behind Wales, who defeated Russia 3-0 on Monday.

As a result, England will now face whichever side finishes second in Group F, out of Portugal, Hungary, Austria or Iceland.

England's second-place finish also means they will play their last-16 tie in Nice and not Paris, as would have been the case if they had won the group.

Hodgson's squad will now have to travel over 600 miles from their Chantilly training base to the Allianz Riviera Stadium.

"I suppose that would have been ideal for us to play more locally but I think it'll be exactly the same feeling if we play further away," Clyne said.

"We've got one job to do and that's to win the game and that's it."
