Slovakia 0-1 England: How did Sam Allardyce's side compare with Roy Hodgson's?

Sam Allardyce manager of England looks on prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Group F qualifying match between Slovakia and England

How did Sam Allardyce's England side against Slovakia compare with Roy Hodgson's? We take a look at the stats...

New England manager Allardyce kicked off with a 1-0 win over Slovakia in Trnava but until Adam Lallana's stoppage-time goal it was all very familiar. The statistics reveal why.

Allardyce's side had only five shots on target in their World Cup Qualifier - exactly the same number they managed in their goalless draw with the same side at Euro 2016.

Adam Lallana struck a 95th-minute winner to secure Sam Allardyce a dramatic 1-0 win over Slovakia.

In fact, England had 20 shots on Sunday compared to the 30 they managed this summer in Saint-Etienne.

England's possession at the weekend was marginally higher - up to 64.3 per cent from 60.6 per cent at the Euros.

That isn't entirely attributable to Martin Skrtel's red card in the second half because Allardyce's side actually saw more of the ball before the break.
