Rhian Brewster says England U17 World Cup win hasn't sunk in yet

Rhian Brewster and Phil Foden spoke to SSN after touching down at Heathrow after winning the U17 World Cup

England's Rhian Brewster says the whole experience of winning the U17 World Cup has not sunk in yet.

England's U17 team returned from India on Monday after winning the U17 World Cup by coming back from 2-0 down to beat Spain 5-2 in the final.

Speaking to Sky Sports News at Heathrow, Rhian Brewster said: "I don't think it has sunk it yet, but I'm happy to be home, but I'm happy to be home, it has been a long month but a great month and I'm so happy to be home right now."

The Liverpool and England player scored in the final and won the Golden Ball award behind team-mate Phil Foden: "It's an amazing experience for me personally to win the golden boot and coming behind my fellow team-mate for [the ball award].

"It is a great achievement and obviously an even bigger achievement is winning the World Cup, so I'm just really happy for me, Phil and the team,

However, Manchester City's Foden, who scored twice in the final, admits the team have not got carried away with their success.

"We've just kept our feet on the ground and played our football," he said. "We haven't got too over excited about all the messages from back home and have just done the job which was what we came here to do."

The team-mates hope their victory will shine a light on the youth players in England and after their successes, both feel they are ready to achieve their dream of playing first-team football.

Brewster said: "[Playing first team football] is want we have wanted to do since we were babies and if we get our chance at 17 it will be an amazing experience.

"To be honest we are still young and we still got work to do and we are still learning so that is what we can do now."

England U17 head coach Steve Cooper added: "For the players it is wonderful to win a World Cup at any level is an unbelievable achievement something you will never forget.

"We are all very proud and very privileged to be a part of it, players and staff.

"We were worthy winners in my opinion and I thought we played excellently throughout the tournament.

"I think its great recognition for the work that the academies are doing in England and I think it is great recognition of what we are doing at the FA with the national team."
