England players have been reassured that family members travelling to the World Cup in Russia will be provided with security experts to ensure their safety, Sky Sports News has been told.
Exact details of the arrangements are being kept secret for operational reasons but the players' wives, girlfriends and other family members, and those of the wider England staff, will be included as part of the official FA delegation, so that they receive extra protection.
This will be the first time this has happened since the 2006 World Cup in Germany when the partners of Sven-Goran Eriksson's team received a lot of media attention.
Since then, security experts have worked closely with the families, offering advice and support, but they have not stayed with them.
England manager Gareth Southgate is keen to avoid the celebrity distractions of 2006, but has said he wants a relaxed atmosphere within the England base in Repino on the northern outskirts of Saint Petersburg, and he will allow players' families to join them in camp the day after matchdays.
For the remainder of the time, the families will be staying in St Petersburg, about an hour away from the training camp.
